You need to do this simple little test to help isolate which part of the ciircuit is the trouble maker. Sounds like your fuel filter might be plugged causing the engine shutdown. Messing around switching solenoids may have jiggled it enough to make it seem fixed.

You can either buy a new standard one or get high amp relay to replace the solenoid these are far cheaper but youll need to do some wiring mods. That would make it keep cranking even when the ignition is off. The running starter does not stop when the key is turned off or the engine switch is turned off.

If it activates the relay then its pretty much the switch or in the switch circuit. If you shifted to drive or reverse OR removed the Redblue stripe wire from the starter RELAY and it stopped cranking theres about a 99 chance that theres a short to battery in the ignition switch. Either faulty starter relay solenoid or ignition switch.

When I push the start button the starter keeps cranking and the starter relay makes noisethis is my third relay. You could check for voltage at the small terminal on. Except for one time I had the seats on and it just cranked till it couldnt crank anymore than slowly stopped Im sure that was good on it sad.

The contacts are probably getting fried and sticking together. Sounds like the starter solenoid is stuck on. If the engine isnt firing either then you probably damaged the CDI unit.

If it does then its the relay. If it doesnt then touch the ignition wire to its relay terminal. Solenoid problems on a 12 volt Delco Remy starter.

And if I disconnect the battery lead to make it stop I can then reattach the battery lead to the battery and it will try to start cranking again without hitting the starter. Since you have the remotes on it and having a hard time getting it fixed I would either go to a heavier relay Freightliner uses about the same thing on the 99 112 models or wire a pair of them together to handle the starter. I have a 2004 660 when i shut the key off the motor shuts off and the dash shuts down but the starter keeps turning over.

Disconnect the ignition wire from the relay re connect battery and see if it activates the starter. To stop it I have to unhook battery cablekey on our off. Even though you have turned your key off if the switch inside the solenoid is stuck on and is allowing power to flow from the big lead coming directly from the battery to the big lead going to the starter motor it will keep spinning as long as the switch allows power to flow.

Possibly the internal return spring has broken inside the starter solenoidvibration bad initial assembly can cause it making the engine crank without the key being turned on same as if you bridged the two large terminals on the solenoid with a wrench or screwdriver. Also inspect all wiring for meltedburnt insulation. The only way to stop the spinning starter motor was by disconnecting the lead from the battery to the solenoid cutting the battery cable with a hedge cutter.
